Maria Antonia's story

Mrs. Maria Antonia has been working in domestic service for five years, a job that is tiring and low-paying. She is a single mother of three children, two of which immigrated to Costa Rica because of the high unemployment rate, low pay, and bad economic situation in the country. Her youngest child is 7 years-old and in second grade in elementary school. Maria Antonia's house is small, but because of the need to earn money she took the initiative and decided to rent out one room to help with the basic costs of water and electricity. With the previous loan she finished building and furnishing the room. With the funds from this loan she will buy the materials to build another room: stone, sand, cement, iron, zinc, and beams, all with the goal of saving for the future. Maria Antonia is already 52 years-old, and she feels tired. She is grateful for Afodenic and the support their loans provide for poor women.
