Luz's story

Luz, 37, is a very hard-working woman who lives with her husband, Juan, 38, in their own home. Her greatest desire is to improve their quality of life. She sells papayas in the Las Mercedes (Juliaca's most important market) market. Her husband brings the papayas from the city of Puerto Maldonado (a city on the Brazilian border). Her stand is very popular because her papayas are fresh and juicy and this has attracted many customers. What Luz most likes about her job is being able to chat with her fellow merchants because that makes the long work days much more pleasant. She has been in this line of work for 8 years and considers the most difficult part of it having to stay at her post all day long not being able to go out anywhere. She hopes that, in time, her business will grow and produce better earnings. This is Luz's 9th loan with MFP. She knows that she must make all her repayments on time if she wants to have access to future loans and she is willing to do so. The 2000 soles requested will be used to buy more papayas in order to have better selection of merchandise.
