A loan helped to buy used drums to retail to metal craftsmen.

Bernard's story

Bernard is an artist who originally grew his small business. He sells metal crafts to tourists in Haiti. He lives in Croix-des-Bouquets, an artist town where sculpting metal is very traditional.

A few years back, Bernard had difficulties receiving orders from international buyers. To cope with the lack of sales, he started buying and selling drums, the raw material for all metal crafts, to other artisans. This activity has become a way of living for him, representing 70% of his annual revenue.

Thanks to this activity, Bernard can take care of three dependents. His activity now employs a minimum of 12 contractual workers who respond to international orders. They also cut, burn and scrub metal drums in order for them to be ready to be used by artists locally.

Today, Bernard is looking for a new loan to buy more drums and respond to the local market demand. Bernard has already repaid his previous loan on Kiva.

This loan is special because:

It provides small and growing businesses in Haiti with access to capital.
