A loan of $975 helped to buy fertilizer to grow pineapple.

Salome's story

Mr. Salome A. Mercado has been a farmer for forty years and grows pineapple, coffee, and citrus fruits thanks to his mother's support. She provided him with land so that he could work and support his family.

The most difficult thing he faces is that oftentimes the pineapple that he grows doesn't get a good price because of its size, which affects his livelihood as the bit that he manages to collect is barely enough to meet his expenditures.

He would like a loan to buy fertilizers and materials so he can have good yields and improve his living conditions. At the same time, he would like to be able to buy a van to be able to move his products to the market.

Don Salome is 52-years-old and lives in Ticuantepe where he grows pineapple. He has five grown children and his wife is a trader who helps him with household expenses. He is grateful to AFODENIC (Kiva field partner) for the opportunity of the loan.
