Maria Jesus's story

María Jesús belongs to the Virgen Asunta Communal Bank. She lives in the Calca district, Urubamba province, Cusco department. The city of Calca is an hour from the Cusco province.

She is the president of her communal bank. She is a 49 year old single mother. She has two children. She is a teacher at the Sagrado Jesús de Calca School.

She teaches in the mornings, and in the afternoons she alternates between her household chores and working in her small grocery business. She sells food like sugar, rice, noodles, bread, and soft drinks, etc. She has been doing this for several years. It has gone very well for her thanks to the effort that she puts into her work.
