A loan of $600 helped purchase fertilizers & supplies for improving pineapple production.

Ana Mercedes's story

Sra. Ana Mercedes is 39 years old. She lives in the neighborhood of La Francia No. 2, located in the town of Ticuantepe, with her three children. Her oldest child contributes toward the household expenses, while the two younger children are students who help on the farm during their free time. Ana’s plans include building her own home since she and her children currently live at her mother’s house. She became a single mother after divorcing her husband.

Ana has been farming for seven years. Her parents provided her with a plot of land so that she and her children could get ahead. Ana’s greatest difficulty in growing pineapple is the lack of resources to acquire fertilizers and other supplies to improve her production. Her first loan was used to help part of her plantation recover from an invasion of pests. She thanks AFODENIC for the support that was provided to her.

Her second loan will be invested in agricultural supplies so that she will be able to sell her crops at a better price and make her payments on time. She is grateful for this opportunity and appreciates that these development programs are available to help many farmers and small business owners.
