Rébecca's story

Rébecca B. was born around 1949 in Porto-Novo, the administrative capital of Benin. Rébecca is married and has six children, of whom three are in her care. All of Rébecca's children are in school. Rébecca lives alone with her children and supports the family by herself. For 25 years, Rébecca has lived in Ekpè, in the town of Sèmè-Podji in Benin. Rébecca never went to school. For twenty years, Rébecca has been selling charcoal at her home. To this, she has also added the sale of peanut oil, which she runs as a secondary business. It is at Dantokpa, the international market of Benin, that Rébecca gets her supplies. Rébecca is a longtime client of ALIDÉ (one of Kiva's field partners) who has repaid all her loans properly. To strengthen her business by further enlarging it and to satisfy her customers, Rébecca is seeking a sixth loan through ALIDÉ.
