A loan helped a member to expand her business by purchasing more raw materials (in order to make, then sell, thatched roofs).

Mrs. Goun Touch Village Bank Group's story

Nine people, all of whom live in Trabaek Pok village in Kandal province, comprise this particular village bank loan. The group members are seeking this loan for different business purposes, depending on the type of business they are engaged in.

Mrs. Goun T., for example, who was selected by her fellow members to be the village bank president, is a farmer. Indeed, she owns a small piece of land, on which she cultivates rice in order to earn a living. Aside from her farming operation, she also sews (and sells) thatched roofs to generate additional income. Because her business has been doing well, she wants to expand it. Thus, she decided to ask for a loan to buy more raw materials for her roof-making business. Her husband, Mr. Yong Phalla, helps her with the businesses. Mrs. Goun T. has three children; one of her children is employed in a garment factory, another child is a construction worker, while the youngest child helps with the businesses.
