Patricia Marlene's story

.

Patricia Díaz, 40, is a member of the María Reina de la Paz (Mary, Queen of Peace) communal bank which came together in the city of Cuenca. Cuenca is the capital of the Azuay province and is renowned for its beautiful architecture, its beautiful temples, the four rivers that bathe the city, and the able hands of its craftspeople as well as for its warm and kindhearted inhabitants. Patricia lives in the Totoracocha community, is married and has three children, 22, 20, and 18 years of age. Her first two are students at the Instituto Sudamericano and her youngest daughter studies at the Ricardo Márquez Tapia Institute. Her husband is a mechanic and together they watch after the wellbeing of their home. She still does not have a home of her own; she lives with her in-laws. Patricia prepares meals that she home delivers. Besides, she owns a small grocery store in her mother's house in the community of Limón, which is in the eastern part of Ecuador. She travels there on weekends to see how the store is doing and to stock it with merchandise. She has done this for 7 years. She tells us that five years ago she was a member of the bank but had to leave for personal reasons. However, now she is back and very happy because soon she will receive the requested loan with which she will buy kitchen equipment and pots that she needs to set up her restaurant.
