Celestino's story

Celestino Manuel Guerra Nhanjoba was born in the city of Tete, in the province with the same name. He is 55; married; and is the father of 5 children who are 14, 12, 10, 8, and 3. The four oldest go to school. He studied through his fourth year of medicine in Russia from 1974-1981 and then moved back to Mozambique. He lives in his own home with his family and doesn't support anyone besides them. He left Tete for Russia in 1974, where he had a scholarship to continue studying. He returned in 1981 and began to work at the Ministry of Health until his retirement in 2004. He has his own business, which he runs with the help of his wife. He sells bundles of various used clothing. He buys them for 12,000 meticais per bundle and sells them for 16,000 meticais. He has a monthly salary of 3,900 meticais and a pension of 8,187 a month. He saves some money every month in his bank account from the profits from his business. He has never had a loan with another bank. He became familiar with Hluvuku through his friends who have been clients of the institution for a long time. This is his first loan and it is for 20,000 meticais. He will use it to buy more products for his business (various bundles of clothing) as a way to diversify his products. He promises to pay back his loan on time so he can request more loans in the future to keep expanding his business.
