A loan of $775 helped purchase chickens and feed.

Maria Rosa Marina's story

The Third of November Community Bank is found in the parish of Cumbe, southwest of the city of Cuenca, Ecuador. This place is known for its craftwork in weaving and also for archeological sites like Cauzhin and Tambo de Mariviña, which attract national and foreign tourists alike. María Rosa A. is a member of the community bank and lives in Cumbe. She is 47 years old, happily married and has seven children, ages 26, 24, 23, 21, 13, 12 and 10. Her eldest daughter is married and out on her own, while the other three adults work and help the household economically. The youngest three are still in school. Her husband makes a living as a carpenter, and with the family's collective effort they were able to build their own home. María Rosa makes a living raising chickens, as much for her family to eat as to sell. She divides her time between caring for her birds and household chores. She has worked with her community bank for eight years, and with the loan she is requesting from Kiva partner Fundacion Espoir she plans to purchase a group of chickens and feed to start their rearing. Her dream is to expand her home.
