A loan of $800 helped to buy one dozen pairs of shoes, 3 dozen bags, and 13 bolts of fabric.

Blanche's story

Blanche N. was born in 1975 in Abomey-Calavi, not far from Cotonou, the economic capital of Benin. Married to Albert Houessou, a motorcycle electrician, Blanche has two children, both in school. Blanche has lived together with her husband and children for nine years in the Cococodji area, close to Cotonou. Blanche ended her education in secondary school. Only Blanche's husband provides for the family. For seven years, Blanche has run a business selling fabric, bags, and shoes through the distribution system. Blanche gets her supplies in Lomé, the capital of Togo, a country bordering Benin. Blanche has already benefited from one loan through ALIDÉ (one of Kiva's field partners), which she repaid properly. To further increase the size of her business and better satisfy her clientele with the upcoming holiday season, Blanche is seeking a second loan through ALIDÉ. Blanche aspires to open her own shop in which to sell her items.
