A loan helped to renovate a house, in order to rent out an apartment for tourists.

Maia's story

Maia is 42 years old, a hard-working person who leads the family and does her bit for the family's welfare. Maia is from the village of Anaklia, which borders on the Black Sea and is a very attractive place for tourists.

Maia and her family members are involved in agricultural activity. In particular, they tend six dairy cows and sell the milk products among the local people. Also Maia and her family harvest nut trees seasonally, with the harvest sold at the local market at a good price.

Now Maia has decided to develop an additional source of income and rent out a house seasonally. Her main customers will be tourists, and Maia will get the opportunity to generate good income during the season.

She has been approved for a loan within the framework of a joint initiative between Kiva and Credo. The start-up loan program provides business start-up loans with soft conditions to informal businesses that do not have access to credit products. The loan will greatly assist Maia, and she will be able to improve her economic situation and give her family a better lifestyle.

This loan is special because:

It helps vulnerable women start a new business.
