A loan of $1,050 helped to buy natural fertilizer and rent a tractor.

Gladys's story

Gladys, 37, lives with her husband and two sons, 16 and 17 years old, in their own house. She has been a farmer for the past 15 years and grows wheat, barley, broad beans, and potatoes. Every day she inspects her farmlands checking on her plants and, once harvest time is here, she needs the help of all her family and hires a few laborers to bring in and bag the crops. On the weekend, the sacks of produce are taken to the local market to sell. This is the way she gets profits she has been waiting six months to get. Gladys is very happy in this work because it allows her to enjoy the scenery and, even though the work is very hard, this is her way of life. For the next few years she would like to plant even larger spreads to continue selling her products and earning better profits. This is the ninth loan MFP has granted Gladys. She is one of the most persevering members of her communal bank and one who is always promoting responsible labor. On this occasion, she renews her commitment to repay on time so that she will be able to continue receiving future loans. With the funds requested now she will buy sacks of natural fertilizer and rent a tractor to till the soil and spread the seed.
