A loan helped to build a shed for storing her work tools and her harvested crops.

Marcelina's story

Marcelina is 53 years old and lives in the town of Coroico, which is north of the Department of La Paz. This place is well-known for its pleasant climate and the “Road of Death” (a narrow stretch of highway on the side of a mountain).

Marcelina is married to Isidro, who is found in the photo with her. Together they have been cultivating coca leaves for 25 years. Coca leaves have thousands of uses, not only medicinal, but also as a way of mitigating fatigue. Marcelina and her husband sell their harvest at the local market, as well as in the city of La Paz. They sell according to demand and what is being offered, but they also set aside a percentage of their harvest for those months when the demand is high. Both of them work together, starting in the early morning hours. All of their work is done manually until they are finished for the day.

Marcelina is requesting this loan so that she can build a shed for storing her work tools, as well as her gathered harvest.
