Carmen Rosa's story

Carmen belongs to the "Mujeres Activas" (Active Women) Community Bank, located in the Bellavista district of the Bellavista province of the Department of San Martin. This single 46 year old woman is the mother of 6 children, 1 of whom she still supports. She has always been characterized by her spirit of perseverance and her desire to progress through her own efforts. This has lead her to open her own business selling kebabs - something she has done for 5 years. Her business is located in the front of the Plaza in a well placed spot with good foot traffic. Little by little she endeared herself to her customers, and now she reports a strong business. Currently she continues in the same business, and she is very pleased with her job. With this 2,000 sol loan she will purchase basic ingredients including bags of rice, eggs, Creole chickens for making “juanes” (traditional Peruvian dish of cassava, rice, and meat steamed in a banana leaf), and cooking utensils so that she can provide high quality service and replace her old ones. Carmen feels pleased and at ease with what she is doing, and she is thankful to the Manuela Ramos movement for contributing toward the completion of her goals and dreams.
