A loan helped to buy chemical fertilizer to feed his bean crops.

Cruz Elias's story

Elías is 60 years old, and he lives together with his partner in the parish of Cahuasquí. He is known for being a very honest and hard-working man. Previously, he worked as a day laborer, but with the help of the Kiva loans, he now has his own crops.

Elías needs a loan to buy chemical fertilizer to feed his the beans he has planted, so that he can have better production. He sells his harvest in his own village. He pays laborers to help him harvest the beans, and he sells them in sacks to the buyers in the village.

With the income from each harvest, he continues to expand his crops, and thus over time he can buy a plot of land so he can retire and rent it out, and with this income he can have a better quality of life.
