A loan helped to help recover from damages to her business and house from the cyclone.

Melenaite's story

Melenaite is 31 years old. She was married but is currently separated from her husband. Melenaite is responsible for looking after her three children by herself. She requested a loan to start a business of weaving to sell goods to help make a living.

Last February, Tonga was struck by the most intense cyclone on record and sadly this affected Melenaite's house and also her business. Her house totally collapsed from the cyclone so she had another rehabilitation loan to help repair her house and to recover her business.

At the moment she still continues running her weaving business and sells them to help pay back her loan and provide for her children. She envisions being able to educate her children and motivates them to not give up because she's a separated mother.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
