Gladys Suzana's story

The Responsible Ladies Communal Bank is comprised of a group of capable and strong-willed women who make supporting their families a high priority. Despite the obstacles that surface on a daily basis, they have been able to form an excellent working team that looks out for the welfare of its members. The Communal Bank is located in the city of Cuenca, which lies in a mountainous region of southern Ecuador.

Gladys Pérez is a member of the Responsible Ladies Communal Bank. She lives in the neighborhood of Visorey in central Cuenca. Gladys is 39 years old and happily married. Her two children, ages 14 and 12 respectively, are currently students at Chiquintad Technical High School. Her husband is an upholsterer by profession and the couple’s hard work has enabled them to build their own home.

Gladys and her husband have operated a local upholstery shop for the past 10 years. She divides her time between managing the shop and performing her household chores. Their business is open from 7am to 9pm, Monday through Saturday.

For five years, Gladys has been a member of her Communal Bank. The loans she has obtained have enabled her to purchase tools for her business. With this new loan from Fundación ESPOIR, she will buy materials such as sponges, screws, synthetic leather, thread, and fabrics so that she can grow her business and provide better service to her customers. Her greatest dream is to help her children with the completion of their studies.
