A loan of $1,150 helped to buy a sewing machine.

Mariam's story

Ms. Mariam Koné is 35 years old, married, and the mother of three children. She lives with her husband and children in a traditional family with several other families in the Hamdallaye district of the city of Ségou (3rd administrative region of the Republic of Mali). Mariam didn’t have modern schooling. Rather, she went to a medersa, which she quit in the 7th year (education system of Mali) in order to learn tailoring. She started off with a master tailor.

After five years of apprenticeship, she is rich with practical experience, and she is advancing on her own and has been running this business for ten years now. She enjoys a good deal of distinction and a large customer base. Her selling power is due to her enthusiasm, especially her punctuality in fulfilling orders. In addition to her tailoring trade, she dyes cloth.

Concerned about increasing her business capital in order to realize more profits, she turned toward Soro Yiriwaso. She is on her first individual loan, which she intends to use to buy a CORNA brand sewing machine. Her supplies are gotten locally. And sales are made in cash or on credit to customers composed of women and men.

With this loan, she envisions realizing a monthly profit of 40,000 francs CFA. This profit allows her to help her husband and to assist with societal events (baptisms, marriages, etc.) Her ambition is to open a ready-to-wear clothing store.
