A loan of $350 helped to buy ingredients for making incense.

Salimata's story

Ms. Salimata Konaté is a 44-year-old woman and the mother of two children who lives with one of her children in the Torakabougou district of the city of Bougouni (3rd administrative region of the Republic of Mali).  After unsuccessful years of modern schooling, she decided to become interested in revenue-generating work, particularly the making and selling of incense.  She learned this business from a friend in Bamako (capital of Mali).

To obtain working capital for meeting the needs of her burgeoning customer base, she decided to join the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso to buy the raw materials for making incenses.  Her output is sold in Bougouni in her shop near the high school intersection in Bamako and in Sikasso.  She is much sought-after for the quality of her products.  Her customers are made up essentially of women.  She supplies herself with raw materias from wholesalers at the Bougouni marketplace.

She hopes to realize a monthly profit of 35,000 francs CFA that will be used to repay the loan interest and to meet her personal needs.  With the profits, she envisions expanding her enterprise.
