A loan helped to buy seedlings and start horticulture farming to meet the high demand for vegetables, and improve her living standards as a single mom.

Judy's story

The nice woman you see in this picture is Judy (a single mom), a woman who has always struggled to make her dreams come true. She knows that this will not be possible through being lazy, but rather through hard work, honest sweat and determination. She therefore works hard to achieve her dreams.

Judy loves and takes great care of her children. She was born in a family where farming skills were passed on from one generation to another. She did not have any alternative way of earning an income, so she chose to venture into farming. Through continuous involvement in crop and animal farming, Judy has been able to provide her family with meals at least once a day. Her family entirely depends on the proceeds she gets from farming.

The Kerugoya area has favorable conditions for horticulture farming. That is why Judy is seeking a loan to buy seedlings and start horticulture farming. Because of good roads, a good climate, and a good transportation network, Judy is sure that she will reap maximum profits and be able to increase her business.

Being a woman and accessing funds in her village is very challenging. She is relieved knowing there are institutions such as Kiva that help enterprising women like her.
