A loan helped build the bath house for a new farmstay enterprise that will help us grow our farm business while inviting the public to come to learn about farming and relax in a beautiful place.

Erica's story

Considering that I didn't eat vegetables until I was 20, and showed zero interest in my mom's garden as a child, I'm as surprised as anyone to have found such a passion for farming. When I was a junior in college I studied abroad in England, Turkey, India, Thailand, and Mexico. That experience blew the lid off my small-town upstate NY world, and opened me to ideas about how our decisions and practices have impacts that ripple far beyond what we can see. I have always loved people and nature, and soon after returning to the US, I discovered farming as a perfect laboratory for exploring the interface of communities and the environment. Once I was immersed--managing the student farm at my university the next Summer--I was completely hooked. Then I started learning about farming practices that sequester carbon in the soil, fighting climate change while producing food. It's been 20+ years, and I've had a farm in my life every year since that first farming experience. Now my happy place is working side by side with my kids, husband, and friends, and then sitting down to share a meal together.

This loan is special because:

It will help a female entrepreneur expand her farm and be able to add an overnight farmstay.
