A loan of $600 helped to buy fertilizer and insecticide.

Petronila De Jesus's story

Petronila R., 60, lives in the Ríos neighborhood in the town of Ticuantepe. She is a single mother. Two of her married daughters help her out economically. Her plans for her family is to improve her planting conditions so that she can increase her earnings to buy a plot of land to leave to her daughters. Petronila has been a farmer for the past 25 years. She learned her farming skills from her parents who, as life-long farmers, taught her to work the land. The greatest difficulty she has faced lately is the smoke from the volcano which has burned much of her crop causing her yields to be so poor that she hasn't even recouped her investment. She is happy for Afodenic's help in purchasing fertilizers which will insure a better crop yield and products that she can sell for a better price. She hopes to recover enough this year to meet her personal expenses and repay her loan in a timely fashion. She will buy fertilizers and insecticides in order to get a better crop yield.
