Flor Del Cafe Xejuyu Group's story

Matilde is the president of the Trust Bank "Flor Del Cafe Xejuyu". She lives in the state/department of Sololá in Guatemala with the 7 other members of the group. The women speak the Mayan language Kakchiquel, the largest Mayan ethnic group in the region. The women of the group have their own businesses selling live chickens and pigs, a corn beverage called “atole”, coffee, bananas, and tortillas. They are eagerly beginning their second cycle with Kiva.

Matilde is 38 years old and only attended school until the first grade. She and her husband have 3 children who are 1, 8, and 11 years old. The two oldest children are both attending school and she hopes that all of her children will graduate from high school. She has a business selling chicken and raising pigs. With this microloan, she will buy more live chicken to sell in the market.

The women of "Flor Del Cafe Xejuyu" have meetings every month to pay their loans and participate in Friendship Bridge’s "Microcredit Plus" program. This program includes lessons at each meeting on the topics of family, health, finances, and the empowerment of women. Through this program, Matilde has learned the importance of managing her finances, budgeting, and saving money. It is because of these skills that she is able to pay for her three children’s uniforms and school supplies.

Matilde and the rest of the women greatly appreciate your generosity! It is with your support that Matilde can increase her business for her family. Thank you!
