A loan helped a member to buy five large pigs to be able to sell more meat to her clients.

Mujeres Bendecidas Group's story

The Friendship Bridge “Mujeres Bendecidas” or “Blessed Women” is made up of seven Maya K'iche women who live in the beautiful department/state of Quiché also known as the "Land of the Clouds". As they begin their first loan with Kiva lenders, they are looking forward to investing new capital into their businesses selling pork meat, handicrafts, or raising chickens and vegetables.

The group's Secretary is 35-year-old Sebastiana. Her parents paid for her education through the fourth grade. She is married but has no children. Her business is raising pigs for slaughter and then selling the meat in the local marketplace. Sebastiana is requesting a loan to buy five large pigs to be able to sell more meat to her clients.

Sebastiana makes monthly payments on her loan and then participates with a facilitator in relevant educational sessions that provide tools for business and personal success. Four main topic areas are covered and include business management, health, family and women. She learns skills in budgeting, savings, hygiene, nutrition, and how to develop good self-esteem. These sessions are part of the Friendship Bridge "Microcredit Plus" program of loans, education and healthcare.

The women of “Mujeres Bendecidas” are extremely grateful to Kiva lenders for partnering with Friendship Bridge to provide them with the skills that grow their businesses and help them make their dreams of better healthy futures come true. Thank you!!!
