A loan of $225 helped buy movies, musical videos, and educational videos, for children and adults.

Flor America's story

The Alianza Unida Communal Bank is located in the city of Cuenca. This city is known for its writers and artists as well as for it beautiful architecture. It also has beautiful scenery and an uneven terrain. Its cold climate contrasts with the warmth of the kind and cordial people like our members.

Flor V. lives in the outskirts of the city of Cuenca. She is an active member of the Alianza Unida Communal Bank. She is 41, married, and has three children. They are 23, 21, and 15. Her oldest son works and helps with the electricity payments. The second child attends the Catholic University of Cuenca. Her last child goes to the Instituto IEISA. They maintain a good family relationship with each other. They have their own house, but they do not live in it because it is very far from their work and school. They live in a rented house.

Flor has been a business person for five years. She has an audio and video stand (she sells CDs and all types of music and movies), which is in a rented location. She tells us that this season business is down a bit, but she is sure that it will soon improve.

Flor has been working with the Foundation for eight years. She tells us that the loans have allowed her to increase her business. With this loan from the ESPOIR Foundation she will buy movies, musical videos, and educational videos, etc. to stock her business with merchandise for children and adults.

Her greatest dream is to see her children become good professionals.
