When Concepción M. got married she learned how to weave rugs from her husband. This business enabled her four children to get ahead. She has a small shop in her house. When she has enough products her husband sells them in the city of La Paz.

She now needs a new loan to buy wool, thread, and yarn. These are the raw materials she uses to make the rugs. She has worked with Pro Mujer for approximately seven years. Above all, she likes the consultation services that they offer.

The other members of the 25 de Julio group, which belongs to the German Busch community center, also have businesses like making “polleras” (skirts), weaving articles of clothing, working in a bookstore, and selling toys and clothes. They need the loan to buy raw material and merchandise.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
