A loan of $700 helped purchase firewood in bulk & sacks of rice and sugar.

Ester Violeta's story

Sra. Ester Violeta Guzmán P. is 57 years old and lives in the District of Trujillo, Trujillo Province, Department of La Libertad – Perú. She is a member of the San Luis Communal Bank and has a 1st grade education. Violeta says her parents were not concerned about providing their children an education because it was more important for them to learn how to work. For this reason, she quit school so that she could start taking care of her siblings and help with the household chores. She got married at age 17 and now has 12 children who are all married and independent.

Violeta buys and sells firewood. She also sells sugar and rice. With her first loan of 300 soles, she purchased firewood in bulk and sold it at the wholesale markets in Trujillo.

With her current loan of 2000 soles, Violeta will buy firewood in bulk and sacks of sugar and rice. She hopes to generate more business so that she can save for the winter season when sales are lower.
