A loan helped to buy materials for building their own toilet, and pay for labor.

Melisa's story

Melisa is a 29-year-old woman from Baybay, Leyte. She is married and has a three years old child. To earn an income for the family, her husband works as a fisherman, while Melisa sells the fish. They have been in this business for three years.

Now, Melisa is asking for a loan through Kiva’s field partner CEVI-Philippines to construct a toilet facility. It is very important for them to have a toilet of their own.

With this loan, she will be able to buy materials for building the toilet, such as cement, concrete blocks, rebar, GI sheets, toilet bowl, plywood, nails, PVC door, PVC tee, PVC pipe, PVC elbow, and solvent. A part of this requested amount will be used to pay for the labor.
