A loan helped a member to purchase a motorcycle for her husband to commute to work.

Saem Group's story

Saem, who appears on the right in the photo, is 37 years old. She is a married mother of three school aged children and lives in a village in the Kampong Cham province of Cambodia. She is a farmer and has been working in her cashew farm for the past 11 years. Her family income has been supported by her husband, who is a worker. Both of them typically earn only US $9 per day.

Saem is now asking for a loan as part of a three-member group. She would like to use her share of the loan to purchase a motorcycle for her husband to commute to work. She is confident that this loan will allow her to have enough money to buy a new motorcycle and increase her family's profits to keep sending her children to school.
