San S., 29, has three children and lives in the Kampong Cham province with her husband, Hea Siem. Since 2000, she has been raising pigs to earn a living and is able to make US$1.50 of profit every day, while her husband makes US$6.60 each day as a blacksmith. Two of the children are in school and one is too young to attend. San S. would like to take out a loan of US$1000 she needs to purchase farmland. She believes that with the loan, the expansion of her business will bring about an increased income and a higher standard of living.
