A loan of $900 helped buy products to add other traditional dishes and start a bar with soft drinks.

Felinda Caridad's story

Mrs. Felinda Caridad B. C. is an active member of the Sweet Friendship Community Bank located in Rocafuerte in the province of Manabí. She lives in the community of Las Jaguas, about ten minutes from the city of Rocafuerte. This area is characterized by being a tourism center which many people visit every weekend to enjoy themselves and sample the best traditional food of the region.

Felinda had a plot of pasture land for her cattle because her husband worked raising and selling cattle in the region. She decided to use part of the land and set up a traditional food restaurant called Valle Hermoso (Beautiful Valley). She has run the business for three years, with her husband and their children. She assures us that it is going very well and the dishes most fancied by the tourists are: chicken soup, empanadas, suero blanco (whey from milk), bolones (banana/egg pastry), seco de gallina criolla (a chicken dish with a traditional sauce), etc.

With this loan from the Foundation ESPOIR she will increase her business by buying other products to prepare other traditional dishes like fish and shrimp, and a bar which will offer soft drinks, mineral water, and beer.
