A loan of $350 helped to buy fertilizers.

Lucy's story

Lucy is a dynamic, 27 year-old woman who is separated and is the mother of a son. Since her parents are farmers, she learned the techniques of growing each one of their products when she was young. For this reason she is able to grow crops of coffee, rice and beans on her own, only using workers temporarily during the times of harvesting beans. Every three months she harvests her produce; this way it is much more profitable. When she sells her beans she is able to earn 1500 soles; this sum is used to pay for her supplies for three months while she waits for the next harvest of her other products. Lucy is happy that through her farming she is able to sustain herself and ensure that her son does not want for anything. This is her third loan with MFP; she mentions that she feels very comfortable and accustomed to all of the members of her communal bank. In addition, she is very grateful for the trust that she has been given in obtaining consecutive loans. The money that she requests now will be used to purchase chemical fertilizers for her diverse crops.
