A loan of $950 helped to purchase a water filtration system to provide clean drinking water for the school's students.

Fountain Public P School's story

Greetings from Uganda! This is Latifu, head teacher at Fountain Public Primary School, a mixed school with 420 students in the rural area of Doko-Depot in Mbale.

Fountain Public Primary School has requested a loan to cover the cost of installing and maintaining a UV water filtration system to provide clean drinking water for its students. The school does not have consistent access to clean drinking water and therefore has to spend a considerable portion of its budget on firewood for boiling water for the children. Installing a water filtration system will save the school money in the long term, as the cost of firewood will be reduced.

This loan will enable the school to purchase a UV water treatment system with a 450-litre tank, which will be big enough to store clean drinking water for the students to have every day. The school will repay this loan from school fees, which it collects each term. Latifu hopes, ultimately, that access to safe drinking water will improve students' concentration and attendance, in that it will reduce the number of children who fall sick from water-borne diseases and increase the number who come to the school.

This loan is special because:

It gives students and staff safe drinking water.
