A loan of $775 helped to purchase seeds for planting crops and chickens to be raised.

Maria Carmen Adelaida's story

The Communal Bank "Women of Solidarity" is located in the administrative district of Paute, about 45 minutes away from the city of Cuenca, Ecuador. The area has a temperate climate that favors the cultivation of flowers and a large variety of fruits. Furthermore, it offers a great landscape and a beautiful place to visit. Mrs. María Carmen Adelaida C. Cáceres is an active associate of the Women of Solidarity Communal Bank, formed by a group of women interested in helping their families get ahead. The women maintain an excellent relationship within the bank as well as within the community, always supporting each other. María lives in Chicán parish in Paute, she is 47 years old, and she is married with only one son. Her son is studying at the Polytecnic Salesian University in the city of Cuenca. Her husband traveled abroad in search of a better future for his family. With the money that her husband sent from abroad, she has been able to build a house. María has dedicated herself to agriculture ever since she was young, sowing vegetables and crops as well as raising chickens; a few to sell and the others to consume. She distributes her time between the farm, her animals, and her own obligations at home. This is her fifth cycle working together with the foundation and she tells us that the loans have helped her to move ahead because her husband no longer sends much money because of the economic crisis. With the loan that the ESPOIR Foundation will give her she is going to invest in buying seeds and chickens to add to her nursery, so that she can pay for her son’s studies.
