A loan of $375 helped purchase and resale of merchandise (rice, flour, etc. ).

Atalia Dinis's story

Atalia was born in the city of Maputo. She is 41 years old, married, and has 2 children, ages 14 and 16. She attended school through the seventh grade when she dropped out due to pregnancy. At that time the government did not permit pregnant girls to continue attending school. She lives with her husband and children in their own home. They do not support anyone else.

She left the city of Maputo in 2000 to move to Boane to find better conditions and opportunities for business. She has had her own business since 1980. Besides her running her business (selling commodity goods) she also raises cattle and grows crops in the Umbeluzi river valley, in the Boane district.

In her business she sells rice, flour and drinks where she earns approximately 5.500,00 MT monthly. She uses the money to support her family and she manages to save money in her Barclays bank account. Her husband does not have formal employment and does odd jobs.

This is Atalia's first loan with Hluvuku-Adsema, in the amount of 10.000,00MT, to be used for the purchase and resale of commodity goods (rice, flour, etc.). She has previously had loans with a similar organization that operated in the district on an ambulatory basis. She decided not to continue with them for various reasons.

She plans to pay back the loan without incident in order to have access to future loans with the goal of growing her business, especially during the next holiday season.
