A loan of $850 helped agricultural consumables (seeds, fertilizers).

Flavio Jaime's story

Flávio Jaime M. was born in Boane, a district in the province of Maputo. He is 32 years old and had to drop school before finishing 5th grade, when his father passed away and he had to start working to help support his family. He lives with his wife and children aged 2, 5 and 6, and all of them go to school.

He has never left the city and he works with agriculture and owns a machamba (a large garden where crops are grown that provide most all the food for the people in the villages). He's been working since 1995 and has 3 employees, who work 8 hours a day. He got his work experience from working in a farm prior to that. His favorite vegetable is cabbage, which he grows in a 80km2 (80 square kilometers), and spending up to 35.000,00MT (U$1,275) each harvest, and making back around 65.000,00MT (U$2,365). Adding to that the other cultures, he's able to make up to 85.000,00MT (U$3,100) at the end of each harvest, which allows him to save some money.

This is Flavio's 4th loan with Hluvuku in the amount of 23.000,00MT (U$850) to buy agricultural consumables (seeds, fertilizers, soil preparation) and also to pay his employees. He faces tough challenges like plagues, burglary and the lack of transportation for yielding. The other loans were paid in time and were all used for the same purpose.

In order to guarantee his children proper food and education, he feels that he needs to keep investing in this business, as it is what he's good at. He plans on taking another loan in the future to buy a car to help with the business.
