A loan of $10,000 helped offshore Organics pay for materials to build 210 aeroponic units (2,000 sq ft) on our new 1/4 acre farm.

Chris's story

Co-founders, Chris and Matt Holloway grew up as Navy-brats in a large family of five brothers. The Holloways moved around a lot throughout their childhood, but always had a permanent summer home in Long Beach Island, New Jersey, where they met Offshore Organic’s third co-founder, Ryan Curtin. Between the ages of 11 and 14, the group launched their first joint business venture by selling newspapers outside of local coffee shops and churches. In their teens and early twenties, Chris, Matt, and Ryan worked together as ocean lifeguards. The long days on the lifeguard stand gave them plenty of time to discuss various creative and business ideas.

Chris moved to Oahu in 2010 to study atmospheric science at University of Hawaii, Manoa. Matt moved to Hawaii shortly after, and spent time working on farms on Oahu’s Westside, the Big Island, and as far as Palau. During this period, Ryan attended law school and worked for a tech company in New York. Matt’s interest in farming combined with Chris’s interest in atmospheric science and data technology provided early inspiration for Offshore Organics. The founding team discussed various aeroponic business strategies before launching Offshore Organics in 2016.

It’s rare to find an opportunity to create a business that can combine revolutionary technology, social impact, and a high potential for revenue growth. For Chris, Matt, and Ryan, the chance to develop and use new technology to provide an affordable, sustainable farming solution is very exciting. The founders are extremely passionate about this project because a win for Offshore Organics is a win for Hawaiian food security.
