A loan of $1,700 helped a member to invest in a palm oil business.


Albarka Group's story

Patrick A. K. (in the middle) is the leader of this group. Patrick has been a businessman for more than 20 years now. He sells palm oil by the gallon. Patrick was born in Makeni city, in northern Sierra Leone. He is approximately 56 years old and married to two wives who are businesswomen. He is the father of 15 children, between the ages of 13 and 30 years old.

Patrick A. K., Kadiatu C., Mary P. K., Aminata K. and Marie K. are members of the group Albarka (a Temne word for “thank you”). They have received several loans from Kiva through SMT. They have re-paid previous loans successfully. Their previous loan was for Le 1,000,000 each. That loan made a tremendous impact on the lives and businesses of these borrowers. They were able to make a lot of profit from the loan and were able to solve many of their problems. Having repaid the last loan successfully, they are requesting a new loan of 1,200,000 each to add to their businesses.
