A loan of $5,000 helped us bring Cultural Cold Brew Coffee to 10,000 people and start our awareness show for minority women.

Gabriela's story

Our family immigrated to the United States from Mexico City. We were especially close with our grandmother who we lived with up until the time we immigrated to the United States. Our grandmother had a huge impact on our lives.
Our Grandmother Cristina’s specialty drink that she was known for was her Cafe de Olla. She used to set up tables with Cafe de Olla throughout the city where we grew up, as a token of kindness for the community. Growing up and seeing her generosity to others inspired us to become passionate about making a difference in the community. She also was an independent woman who lived most of her life as a single mother while raising nine children. Despite her struggles she still was seen as a mentor for the women and men around her.
Grandmother Cristina inspired us to go to school and become educated and aware of the issues surrounding us. She taught us to help others, especially people whose voices are not heard. She is still one our role models and source of inspiration to this day.
Throughout our lives we have started or been a part of various small family business ventures such as selling Mexican food. It was not until we saw the need to address women’s issues that we decided to come together to develop a company which symbolizes strength and resilience for all.
At the moment I am finishing school and working with my family to open our own production facility for creating different cultural cold brew coffee and promoting women’s awareness of gender inequality. Our dream is to empower women especially minorities to start their own coffee shops through small low-budget franchises through our Soldadera Brand.
