Ly S., age 54, is married and resides with two of her children in Kompong Chnang province, Cambodia. All the children help their parents with the business to help the family. S. has a business selling groceries and coffee, earning approximately $2.50 of profit per day, while her husband has a business of purchasing cows from the village and reselling them for a profitable price, typically earning about US$8 per day. Their standard of living has improved since they have had these businesses, so they want to take out a loan to expand their businesses. She wants to take out a loan of US $1000 to buy a motor bike for her husband to improve his business.
