Eduardo's story

Eduardo G. R. is a 49-year old man who lives with his wife and three children in a town called las Nubes in the region of Los Chiles, Alajuela province; this community is located in a mountainous areas near the country's northern border. The region's main economic activities are raising cattle and agriculture, more specifically staple crops such as sugar cane and oranges.

From an early age, don Eduardo has cultivated pineapple and has vast experience with the care and growth of this crop; he has a small plot of land where he grows pineapples with good results when he takes the produce to market. For this reason he wishes to expand the area under cultivation, to continue to provide well for his family.

Eduardo is requesting a small loan of ¢500,000 (five hundred thousand colones), in order to buy small pineapple plants to grow as well as other products to maintain the crop and better his harvest. In this way, he will be able to increase production considerably.

Don Eduardo is a member of the Communal Credit Association of Las Nubes, one of 100 organizations within EDESA in Costa Rica. This loan would be his third and he expects it will benefit his business and personal finances as a result. He also notes that prior loans have allowed him to dedicate more time to productive activities.
