N. Lovinsa is the leader of her lending group in Mukono. She is a friendly and strong business lady with a tailoring business in Wantoni that she has owned for 4 years, being able to make 40,000/= as weekly profits. However, she is mostly faced with a challenge of lack of enough capital since she needs to expand the business further by turning it into a tailoring school that will teach young girls the same trade at a fee.

Lovinsa also has goals to achieve and these involve building her own house and educating her children to University level. She is a responsible, married lady with 4 children, the eldest being 13 years old.

Lovinsa needs a loan to help her buy more tailoring materials like thread, needles, cloth, etc., and also partly to pay her children’s school fees.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
