The village bank, which consists of eleven people all living in Smaong village in Takeo province, is requesting a loan. Mrs. Srey Roth K. is the village bank president who has been selected by the members. She is a farmer who owns a plot of land to cultivate rice. In this plantation she faces an obstacle because her field has infertile soil which badly affects her crop. Thus, she decided to ask for a loan to buy fertilizer to support the field. Her husband, Mr. Ev Mei, is a driver who gets little salary. Mrs. Srey Roth K. is 30 years old and the mother of three children, one of whom stays at home while another attends the local school. The youngest one is too young to work or study.

Five members in this group have end-of-term loans and the rest have monthly payment loans. They are not required to pay any principal on the loan until the very end of the loan term. End-of-term (EoT) loans are AMK’s main product because it is the most beneficial to Cambodia’s poor. It allows them to repay portions of the principal whenever they are financially able to. Most clients start to make payments many months before the end of the loan term. Almost all of AMK’s clients make their payments on time.
