A loan of $575 helped to buy a sewing machine.

Mamou's story

Mr. Mamou S. is 34 years old, married, and the father of two children. He lives in a rented place with several co-tenants in the Darsalam district of the city of Ségou (4th administrative region of the Republic of Mali). Having attended Koranic school per his father’s wishes, he soon quit and joined the exodus while embracing the trade of tailoring. After eight years of apprenticeship, and bestowed with this experience, he advanced on his own for fourteen years and now enjoys a strong reputation. A designer and a stylist, as well as a tailor, he is one of the great clothing makers in the city of Ségou. He learned this trade in the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire beginning in his early childhood.

To equip his workshop with a new, more efficient sewing machine in order to adjust constantly to fashions, he turned to the Soro Yiriwaso loan program. He is on his first individual loan, which he intends to use to buy a sewing machine in Ségou.
Mr. Mamou S. sews outfits and sells them to customers composed primarily of women. His services and sales are generally paid for in cash.

He envisions realizing a monthly profit of 100,000 francs CFA that will enable him to provide for his family. His ambition is to expand his workshop and to have a store for damask fabrics.
