A loan of $350 helped to buy a tent and a wooden counter for her fruit stand.

Rosa's story

Rosa is a member of the communal bank "A New Day". She is 32 years old and married with two sons, ages 12 and 3. The older son is studying at school, and the younger stays at home with Rosa.

Rosa is the youngest of 5 sisters. She left school and studied cosmetology, but was not able to complete her program, as she had to care for her father who was sick. Rosa had to go to work to help meet household expenses.

She began working in city markets selling various goods, until she got a job at a supermarket. It was a good job, but Rosa had to leave because she got pregnant and had to care for her son. Rosa now sells fruit at city markets. She wakes up at at five in the morning to make purchases at the wholesale fruit market and get the best prices. Since joining FINCA Rosa has done well, and she now has some working capital. Rosa is asking for a loan of 1000 soles to buy a tent and a wooden counter for her fruit stand. Rosa's dream is to have a juice bar.
