A loan helped to buy a new sewing machine and sewing material such as fabrics, threads, needles, scissors for her tailoring work.

Shakeela's story

Shakeela is a 25-years-old hardworking self-employed woman and a responsible mother of two kids, aged by seven and five, both of whom are attending school and getting a primary education. She lives with her family in a roomed small house in Multan, Pakistan. She is a tailor and earns insufficient income. Her husband is a driver by profession, but the income from transportation is not enough.

So, Shakeela started her own business seven years back. Having learned sewing techniques at an early age, she wants to expand her business and wants to buy a new sewing machine as well as supplies such as fabrics, needles, machine oil, thread, scissors and other items for her work.

Shakeela is applying for a loan from Kiva’s field partner, BRAC Pakistan. With the help of this loan, she will be able to buy a sewing machine and the required sewing supplies so that she can expand her business. This is her sixth loan cycle. She is grateful to Kiva, all lenders, and BRAC Pakistan.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Pakistan.
