A loan helped to buy new farming tools.

Lucy's story

Lucy (pictured above in her house with her better half) lives in a small, isolated community in the Limuru area of Kenya. Despite the difficult living situation and general lack of access to the outside world, she is a hardworking farmer.

She began farming five years ago. Her parents have been supportive and have even allowed her to use their land as capital. Today, she has achieved great milestones in terms of diversifying from vegetable farming by introducing farm animals such as dairy cows, hens and ducks. However, a large portion of the land is still dedicated to vegetable farming.

Lucy is seeking a loan from Kiva lenders to purchase farming tools. After years of use, her farm tools have become old and worn out. This makes her work on the farm very slow and tedious.

With your loan she will be able to acquire new farm tools in good condition and better designed, more durable and more efficient. The overall effect will be better quality farm work and better yields at the end of the season.

This loan will highly impact the financial condition of Lucy’s family and Lucy will be able to improve her farm even more.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals and farming equipment.
