Maria Isabel's story

Maria Isabel Q. R. is 50 years old and lives in the district of La Esperanza in the province of Trujillo and the department of La Libertad, Peru. She belongs to the community bank Esperanza Unida (United Hope). This businesswoman completed schooling until the 5th year of secondary school when she couldn’t continue studying because at age 17 she got pregnant. Maria Isabel is married, has 3 children and they all depend on her economically because they are in high school. Maria Isabel tends to the telephone booth she has in her house, together with the help of her oldest son. The first loan she received (300 nuevos soles) she invested in building her second telephone stall. She will use this loan of 500 nuevos soles to purchase a photocopier and be able to give this service. Maria Isabel dreams of increasing her telephone booth business with internet, photocopier, typing, and binding services.
